What is it?

Petrified wood forms when woody stems of plants are buried in muddy river banks. The lack of oxygen slows decay of the wood, allowing minerals to replace cell walls and to fill void spaces in the wood. The Fossilised wood is then found, dug up, cut and polished to show the inner rings and layers of the tree.
